"Dear DIRECTV Customer:
We want you to know we're doing everything we can to keep your favorite sports programming on DIRECTV but we've simply reached an impasse with Comcast over its Versus channel.
In sports, we all expect fair play and a level playing field - a competitor that plays by the rules. Evidently that's not the rule book Comcast plays by. Its unreasonable demands are the economic equivalent of juicing to gain an advantage over its competitors. And our fear is that their egregiously greedy behavior may ultimately kill coverage of your favorite sports on television.
The deal that just expired was well above market value and beyond what other significant distributors were paying. To add insult to injury Comcast demanded we carry Versus at a 20 percent premium in a new deal, thereby forcing us to take down the channel. We're not happy about this, but we hope you understand that we must hold the line on programming costs in order to protect our customers from unwarranted price increases in this difficult economic climate.
We have successfully negotiated hundreds of carriage deals, but sometimes you need to stand up to a bully and there is a strong possibility that if Comcast makes these same demands to other distributors, they will also be forced to drop Versus resulting in significantly reduced exposure and availability of the sports you like to watch on Versus. Maybe that's what Comcast wants; other than greed it's the only other explanation.
You have our commitment that we will continue to negotiate in good faith with Versus to try and reach a fair settlement. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Oh it's just free for this month!  I was also told when we first got Dish, that to get Versus, you had to get a package that had it. Unlike the Outdoor Channnel, you couldn't add it to your original package for a buck or two a month...Is this still true?

I think it's $2.99 a month now. You just add it ala carte.

Ok they must have changed it then...It wasn't offered ala carte before. When I first heard D/DH was changing venues, I called and they said no dice! I'll have to call and get it on my plan then! Thanks for the info!

Well as a producer of a television show and knowing just how expensive it is to have a show on any of the networks I can say that Versus believes that they are the best the industry has to offer. Well they are not.
DirecTV is by far the best satallite network I have been part of and if Versus thinks that they can by force make DirecTV pass on the cost to their customers just to have Versus available they really should put the crack pipe down and come back to reality.
Yes Versus has spme good programing and some very good shows but to ask a national network to raise their prices in todays economy is really not good business, if anything they should be giving some sort of discount to bring more viewers to the channel.

When does the contract between D&DH and Versus expire? I recorded D&DH shows because, as stated numerous times, Versus left the outdoors theme only occasionally showing what most of us here want to see.
D&DH should not renew their contract with Versus and make an educated choice based upon a consumer poll on its' new provider.

I just noticed this week that D&DH television is now available on DirecTV, on the Sportsman channel. Great news, as I have missed the show since losing Versus.
